JAPAN 2025! ANOTHER ADVENTURE!

In an alpine rainforest near Aomori, Honshu

I have returned to Australia this week after another highly enjoyable 3 week self organised visit to Japan – my 7th visit taking me north of Tokyo to Aomori on the northern coast of Honshu, across to Hokkaido for stays in Sapporo and remote ABASHIRI, back to Honshu with a few days in Sendai and a treat stay to enjoy the coastal beauty of nearby Matsushima (松島).

Back for a few more days in Tokyo before a final stay at Narita city where I encountered the magnificent Buddhist Naritasan Shinsho-ji Temple. I’ve seen many temples in Japan. This one, rarely mentioned in tourist brochures, is a MUST SEE.

Of course, there were many wonderful foodie treats along the way – every place we visited was accessible by public transport – or by walking. Boy, did we walk! My dreadful knee replacement held up – thanks to good walking shoes and determination – our biggest day was just over 10 kilometres with a few hills and steps included!

A Sapporo parfait!

So – once I have settled back in at home and gone through my 2000 plus photos – I’ll begin to tell you in much more detail about our trip. New stories and new adventures in Japan coming up soon!

    • I’d go back for it again LOL! JAPAN is very big on parfaits – some cheapies that are usually full of fresh fruit and then there are high end ones like this in speciality parfait shops. We were walking in Sapporo on Hokkaido on a very rainy day, so didn’t need to much persuasion to take refuge in a good parfait place! Flavours included pistachio, strawberry and chocolate. The biscuit was a delicious nutty type. I was inspired enough by Japan’s parfaits to bring home six made in Japan parfait spoons as a souvenir of this trip. Now I just have to master the art!
