WELCOME TO MY TRAVEL AND FOODIE BLOG .. 2025 update
Hello from Western Australia

I began this blog during the pandemic early in 2021, sharing stories and the photos I have taken from my travels – many over the last 20 years within Australia, Japan, New Zealand and Singapore, and some early ones from my youthful travels in Europe and Central Asia in the 1970’s.
I’ve been travelling for over 50 years – hauling a backpack and tent in my late teens and 20’s, youth hostel and pensione stays around Europe, public transport in places like Afganistan and India, through to a taste of high end luxury hotels and travel experiences.
Australia and Japan are my current great travel passions – I’ve been exploring all States and Territories of my home country Australia, especially the outback regions, throughout most of my adult life. Western Australia, where I live, and Tasmania, where I grew up, are the Australian States I know best about.
Japan has been a wonderful late life discovery, visiting first in 2002 with my two sons and my latest trip with my number one travel companion, hubby MJ, in November, 2024. He was unable to go on the 2002 trip because of work commitments, but has joined me on every one of my Japan visits since.
Most of our travels are self planned. I developed an aversion to organised bus tours and big ship cruises very early on, and prefer to organise and book my trips rather than using travel agents.
The Covid pandemic proved this was a good move as I got all my money back without any troubles for a planned 2020 third trip to Japan … a visit we finally got to take in 2022.
During my travels, I’ve experienced some delicious food, and I’m sharing some of those delights along with my travel tips with you on this blog. An upcoming trip planned to Japan will be my 7th one there – following my usual aim of discovering new places away from the more well known tourist sights. Despite all the hype about over tourism in Japan, we often go weeks without seeing another western tourist.
Note that we don’t speak Japanese, we do utilise google translate and other travel aids a lot, and our trips are well planned.
You will find categories on my blog where you can more directly access the stories and countries that interest you. Links are also at the bottom of this page, along with my latest posts. The photos are generally all taken by me – currently I use a Sony A7iii camera, with a back up Sony 6400.
I welcome your feedback. It’s wonderful to receive comments and `likes’ that let me know people out there are reading my blog. What if I’m doing all this memory searching, research and writing and no one is reading the blog!
I especially love welcoming new Followers and readers who register for email updates. I adore reading other people’s blogs. There areally so many inspiring and talented blog writers and photographers out there!
I hope you enjoy my travel stories. Happy to take questions!

NEW YEAR, PLACES, & PEOPLE -Update May 2026
I’m resolved to hang on to my zest for life for as long as possible, moving forward the only way I know how. I used to love climbing mountains. Past that now. Though old age is a mountain in itself. And I am still on the uphill slope! Slower in my old age, but with…

The Great Central Road is one of the last challenging outback routes in Australia, stretching between the remote northern goldfields of Western Australia and the mighty sandstone monolith Uluru in the Northern Territory.

I know what it’s like to stay in a five star hotel and to be kindly invited to tea in the courtyard of a mud brick two room home with dirt floors that housed two families – the mud brick hospitality was memorable – the five star not so much.
